2008 NWQN Season Opener at Pacific Raceways
Wow! Well... April Showers bring May Flowers!
(April. 08, 2008)

This last weekend was your standard April weekend in the Northwest, with April Showers, well showers, hard Rain, hail.  We started off Saturday for our first opener of the MX race.  We kept the rain off the track for most of the day Saturday to make it pretty good conditions.  Drew Lattimar and team worked throughout the week to get the track and off-road ready for both the NWQN series and the upcoming WORCS series.  Sean Reddish and the WORCS crew showed up on Saturday to start setting up.

Saturdays event went well.  The Pro/Pro-AM race was exciting and offered great views for spectators.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the B rider that got bucked off the bike and had to be taken to the Hospital.  We at FZA Promotions want to let you know we are praying for you and that you are in our thoughts.

Dawn Wayne showed up at the track to wish us well.  Dawn greeted everyone with that same Dawn happiness that she brought to every race.  Dawn had a pretty significant accident at another event over the winter which she has a long road to recovery.  Dawn came out and gave that smile to everyone with that kind heart that she has.  It was great to see you Dawn!

Good Time to Tighten Up the Bolts
(July 09, 2007)

We were just thinking that this is a good time to do some bike work since we have four weeks between races. We would recommend Tuning up Shocks.  Shocks should be tuned up every 6 months.  Check all the bolts and connections on your quad.  Look over the chain and sprockets.  Get some new tires if you are running on some old tires.  Get a leak down from S&S Motorsports.  Change your oil and check your radiator fluid.  Most importantly tune yourself up, keep safe and healthy and we will see you in August and the WORCS Race and September for the NWQN.

Rules & Regulation Refresher Course
(July 09, 2007)

OK we need your help on a few things around the NWQN race rules and regulations. We have been quite relaxed on this, but it is time to tighten up our rules and regulations again.  Please review the Rules page for all the details.  During the next NWQN Race we will not allow you to race if you do not have on the proper safety gear and the appropriate number location.  It was really hard for our lap-checkers to check your numbers during the Motocross race due to many of you and your minis not having numbers on the back.  Also between races, you will want to clean the mud off the number plates before showing up for the next race.  Starting during the next race we will REQUIRE number plates on the back and the front.  If you don't have them we will start selling them at Sign-up.

NWQN Round 6 @ Straddleline Washington
(July 09, 2007)

Round 6 at Straddleline turned out to be a great weekend with... can this be true... No Rain.... I couldn't believe it.  The weekend was awesome with both the MX race on Saturday and the Grand Prix Race on Sunday.  This weekend was dusty, that is for sure but the weather was not to hot and not to cold.   Saturdays Series Motocross race was awesome with all Adult and Kids classes doing their best.  It was good to see a few previously injured riders back on the seat such as Jade Mccoy, Womens A rider.  Jade had a back injury in Riverdale and was told that she would be out the rest of the season.  After a second consultation, the Mccoys found out the injury was not as sever and so they put her back in the series.

Pro class race was a spectacular site with Reed Petchnick #19 (Birthday Boy) making is PRO debut at the NWQN.  Reed was battling with Phil Oppen #12 throughout the whole race trying to take the inside corners to get a pass on Phil but Phil held on strong to take the win.  Drew Lattimar using his 1p Numbers from WORCS took the win for the Pro/AM class on his Suzuki.  Drew wasn't happy with the performance of the new Kawaski 450 and therefore made the decision to move back on the seat of his Suzuki 450.

Round 6 Sunday Series at Straddleline was also a great day with weather being just right but without any rainfall over the last week plus, the track really needed to be watered in order to keep the silt down.  The silt played a big part in the GP race as racers were having to hang either way back or dangerously close the the race quad in front of them. The day went off with only a very small hitch when there were a few issues with which way to send our little 50cc guys out.  Alot of them got confused and ended up going nose to nose.  Bob Lattimar Promoter and on demand decision maker (just kidding Bob) had to go out and play the Pied Piper and took the 50cc kids around the course.  Other than that minor hiccup, The Pro and PRO/AM race lasting an hour and 10 minutes was back to back action with some of the best of the Northwest.  Brandon Brown #3 of the WORCS Series joined us for this race.  Brandon ended up losing 3rd gear and had to come off the course really early into the race.  Tim Shelman (TPQ) decided to take a little bit of a break from the quad when he caught and edge and barrel rolled on the other side of the step up on the moto course.  However, Tim in the standard Shelman way got back on his quad and even though being down by about 5 six spots ended up coming back to take 3rd over all.  Again Reed Petchnick #19 battled with Mark Holtz of Holtz Racing Products throughout the whole race back and forth but Mark wouldn't give up that first place for which he took the HoleShoot and hung on the whole race.   So Holtz 19X 1st, Petchnick #19 2nd and TIm Shelman #11 3rd.  In the Pro/Am Jeremy Johnson #48 put on quite the show but because he pitted in the wrong location and didn't go into the pits to converse with his pit crew, got DQ, leaving the win to Mike Kelley #249.  Dale Mininger #159 made his Pro/AM debut in the GP Sunday Series and was doing awesome holding onto second place until his Suzuki had fuel filter problems and thus brought him to the pit to watch the rest of the race.  Drew Lattimar also came into the pit with a slashed back tire but after a bit of going back and forth finally was able to get a new tire put back on the Suzuki and he was out and on fire for the rest of the race.  It was a great weekend with over 200 entries.

NWQN Round 5 @ Hannegan
(June 25, 2007)

Round 5 in Hannegan was a good weekend with lots of excitement, especially around the weather conditions.  We had to shut things down early due to weather as we were thinking that all the hard metal on the track would have been nice targets for the lighting bolts.  One of these days we are hoping to get a break from the weather conditions we have experienced over the first several races of this years series.

We are thinking that we will start seeing better racing weather and conditions now that July is upon us.  OK... Moving right along to Round 6, remember to all gear up and get ready for Straddleline.  Straddleline elevation and conditions need to be considered.  Remember that Round 6 will consist of the Saturday Motocross race and the Sunday (GP) race.  You may want to bring your MX tires and your GP tires.  Remember to adjust your jetting to the appropriate level.

Good Luck and see you in a few weeks.

Back to Basics : Flags 101
(May 8, 2007)

There was an issue over this last weekends race for which we though it would be good to take you back to Race Flags 101.  Please click the link below to view the details on the different flags at the track.  This is good to teach the little ones as well.  We would hate to see a mini get disqualified for not knowing with the flags mean at the track.  Big bikes as well.  We hate to see anyone DQ but rules are rules.

NW Quad National 2007 promoting two separate series

NWQN Round 4 @ Pacific Raceway
(May 22, 2007)

Round 4 of the NWQN Saturday and Sunday is in the record books.  Coming back to our old haunt at Pacific Raceways in Auburn/Kent area of Washington.  Pacific Raceways made some new track modifications which made for some great Quad Racing.  They removed a few of the doubles and made them into tabletops.  They smoothed out some of the lips on the step downs as well.  This made for a faster more aggressive race! Saturday turned out to be a great day.  Pro Rider Phil Oppen took the win at the pro purse.  Drew Lattimar took control of the Pro/AM race on Saturday followed by Mike Kelley and Jeremy Johnson.  Jeremy Johnson had a bit of bad luck when the kill cord broke on his Suzuki, leaving him out of the main.  Damon Taylor made his debut in the Pro/AM Race on Saturday. All in all it was a great day with a great turn out.  We want to thank all the mini's for coming out and enjoying the racing.  You guys are the future of this sport and we want to do everything we can do to support you as you support our series. The nice thing about this series is the family we created.  If your new to the series you can always go right up to one of the veterans and ask them questions.  A great resource is Mike Taylor or Les Engelhart from Extreme Mini Quads North West.   I did mention to Bob that we really need to work on our 30 second girl as they kept more interesting such as Sean Clinton, Jeremy Johnson, and Ze'vyer Motts helping out start the races.

Sunday's S2F (Spring to Fall) series was also a great day with a great turn out. Our 30 second Girl started out really bad, (Bob Lattimar) but then got cute with Jade McCoy coming to our rescue.  Mini's were out in force and we gathered up a few more Pro racers. Gary Blum, (back on four wheels) took the purse on this day as Paul Wilkerson made his Pro debut.  Mike Kelley took the lead on the Pro/AM race with Joey Wyngaert and Jeremy Johnson trailing in second and third place.  Drew Lattimar on the new 450 Kawi had technical difficulties after the clutch went and was unable to finish the day out.  I am thinking Kawasaki still has a "bit" more work to do on that new Kawasaki 450.

Kenny Crane # 231 and Ethan Thather #78 where putting a great show on during the last race on Saturday with some great riding skills and tricks over the big tabletop.  Kenny was awing the crowds with the over the bars heel clicks with Thatcher doing some downside look backs.  Good performance by both of them to aw the crowd during to end the race day.

We got through to the final races on both days before the rain came in to drench the track,  So it was an awesome weekend.  I am hoping you all enjoyed it as much as the staff of the NorthWest Quad National .  Both race results for Saturday and Sunday are now posted.  Go Check them Out.  If you see any discrepancy, please contact patg@fantomzatv.com for assistance.

NWQN Round 3 @ Riverdale
(May 8, 2007)

Round 3 of the NWQN Saturday and Sunday was a hit!  The track was a bit technical in some areas with a LOT of flat landing.  The Off-Road Grand Prix style race on Saturday offered some GNCC style racing between the trees and with some technical single lines.  We would like your feedback on how you though the Grand Prix style race went.  Please provide feedback in mail by clicking here

Sunday's Motocross race was also very successful.  We haven't got the official results posted yet so stay tuned for further details.

We would also like to send our best wishes out to Jade Mccoy who took a pretty nasty flat landing after the double/double.  We at NWQN and FantomZATV wish you a quick recovery.  You guys need to let us know how you are going.

NWQN Round 2 @ Straddleline
(April 30, 2007)

Round 2 Saturday and Sunday Series both were Awesome.  When we got there Friday night we were skeptic as to how the conditions were going to be due to the rain and the condition of the track.  However, Saturday the sun came out, the track cleared up fast and the races were on!  Saturday series went off with out a hitch.  Good riding by all!  Reed Petchnick had a really good Saturday and Sunday while Jeff Bocook, Pro Racer 79 didn't have such a good time as Pro rider Jesse Goss had a few misfortunate jumps landing on Jeff Bocook and then in the next moto landing on Phil Oppen, Kyle Meixner also had an unpleasant tumble trying to avoid Oppen.

We saw two of our very own back on the track this weekend.  Gary Blum Pro Rider #22 decided that two wheel racing isn't as fun as quad racing, so he came back clinching 3 place in the Pro lineup.  Also, Jarid Lorenzen A rider #15 got back on the track after taking the winter off to let a bad arm break heal up from a mishap at Pacific Raceway last year. Drew Lattimar Pro/AM #35 was out racing the brand new Kawasaki 450.  The quad looked like it was running good with the occasional puff of unknown smoke coming out and the very light weight front end.  I am sure once Drew dials that bike it it will be a awesome ride.   The Sun came out on Sunday to have a great day!  The only problem was that the track got really dusty fast.  As the day went on it got harder and harder to see as the dust picked up more.

Mini Racers were on fire this weekend as well.  Those kids are going to be phenomenal racer, not that they already aren't great riders already, but I will be glad by the time they are up running big bikes, I will be far far retired from racing.

Results are coming and will be posted soon.  Keep yourself posted by coming back and checking us out!

Safety is a MUST!!! (IMPORTANT MUST READ)
(No Exceptions, please review the Rules for Round 2)

(April 4, 2007)

During Round 2 of the NWQN series we will be doing tech specs as you come to the line.  There will be NO exceptions if you do not have the appropriate safety requirements met.  If you are not familiar with what items are required for racing, please view the rules page for further details.  Again, no exceptions.  We want you and the other racers to be safe.

Speed in the Pits Will Cost You
(April 4, 2007)

We watched a few people zoom through the pits.  I want to make it clear that pit speeds are to be 5 MPH.  This is for both adults and minis.  If any race officials identify you as zooming through the pit section it will cost you by either starting behind your class or starting backwards.  Please make sure that you let your minis know that they need to ride slow through the pits and safe.  Remember there are little ones running around the pits and we don't want them getting hurt because you had to get to the line.  We will give you time to make it to the pit.  Normally 2 minutes if you are not on the line.

Help Us Keep in Clean (IMPORTANT)
(April 4, 2007)

Please help us on taking care of the tracks we visit so they let us come back.  We noticed that there was lots of water bottles on the ground and trash especially around the gate.  Please help us clean up and pick up your trash.  We would truly appreciate your assistance in keeping it clean.

Steps on Pitting During a Race
(April 4, 2007)

Since no pits are provided during MX races we have the following option.  if you have to pit for example leaving the track for minor repairs, you must leave slowly and not be a danger to anyone.  You must return to the track at the same place you exited and re-enter the track not to impede other racers on the track.  You may not re-enter the track after the last rider has crossed the finish line.

NWQN Round 1 2007: Horn Rapids
(April 4, 2007)

Round 1 of the 2007 NWQN Championship Series was a success.  We had a great couple of days in racing.  The weather stayed good and the quads were hot.  We have made several changes to this years venue and we are looking forward on carrying the smooth process that worked in Round 1 to all the other rounds throughout the two separate races of this year.

The track was in great shape and provided our racers a challenge. The Pro & Pro-Am race was exciting with Jeff Bocook winning the Pro race and Drew Lattimar checking out on his Suzuki to take the win at the Pro-Am class.  Just remember, we have two separate series during this season.  The race results are up and posted.

NW Quad Nationals Getting more popular  (January 30,2006)

NW Quad Nationals is getting more popular in the Northwest.  During the last race at Wide Open we have over 113 signups and over 284 spectators.   The increase in riders and spectators over the course of the series should prove that are increasing the visibility to a fun family sport.

Riders/Racers and guardians must understand the rules or suffer the consequences

It has come to our attention that there has been some cases where riders are coming to the track, practicing or racing without signing a waiver. It is of our most strict policy that no one is to practice or race without signed waiver.  If you bring an underage person to the track that is not in your direct family, you must remember to get a signed statement from the parents/guardians stating that they give you permission to sign on behalf of the parents.  All riders no matter what age MUST sign a waiver before even starting a quad at any FantomZATV promotions.  If we identify any rider that has not gone through the appropriate steps, that rider and all involved will be banned from any FZA races until such time FZA feels that they can once again participate in any FZA event.
